YORK – Harry H. “Sonny” Markle, III, 72, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at UPMC Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Brenda E. (Meyers) Markle with whom he would have celebrated 53 years of marriage on May 12, 2021. A Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2021 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York and will be Livestreamed at www.Facebook.com/heffnertributes/live A viewing will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Chapel. Entombment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with Full Military Honors presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. All PA Dept. of Health Covid guidelines will be followed including mask wearing. Born June 6, 1948 in York a son of the late Harry H. Markle, Jr and the late Elizabeth M. (Rudy) Ketterman and stepfather William Ketterman; he was a 1966 graduate of West York Area High School. Following high school, Harry served three years in the US Army, one year in Vietnam and one year of service in the Pentagon. His military service earned him the President Unit Citation, Vietnam Service & Campaign Medals, Joint Service Commendation, National Defense Service and Expert Firearms medals. Mr. Markle then went into police work for 12 years with West Manchester Twp. Police Dept. followed by 30 years with York Wallcoverings where he began as a Color Mixer and then Company Operator until his retirement in 2016. Harry enjoyed golfing, bowling and yearly trips to the Naylor Camp in Lycoming County. He was a Life Member of both West York VFW and Viking Athletic Association. In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by two sons, David C. and wife Suzy Markle and Brian E. Markle both of York; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a very close aunt and uncle, Spurgeon and Bertha Markle.
