Harry D. Peck" Gross

YORK - Harry D. "Peck" Gross, 81, died at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at his home. He was the husband of Jeanne (Schwartz) Gross with whom he celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary on November 12, 2007. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Rev. Randall Bistline officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacob's Union Cemetery, York New Salem. Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Gross was born February 19, 1927, in Newberrytown. He was the son of the late Harry D., Sr. and Sarah (Travers) Gross. He had been the traffic manager at Bon Ton Foods in York for many years until retiring in 1998 and had previously worked with Bob Toomey Trucking. Following his retirement he was employed as a part-time funeral assistant with Heffner Funeral Chapels & Crematory. He was a member of West Poplar Street Church of God; the Viking Athletic Association; and served as a Corporal in the Army during World War II. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gross leaves his daughter, Pamela Bowman of York; three grandchildren, Andrew Bowman and wife, Amanda, Christian Bowman and wife, Holly, and Breean Bowman; two great grandsons, Blake and Mason; and three brothers, Charles Gross, Larry Gross and Tom Gross, all of York. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Gross, Paul Gross and Donald Gross. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17402.
