Harry C. Russell Sr.

Harry C. Russell Sr., 67, formerly of Pottsville and Cumbola, passed away Friday at ManorCare, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville, Nov. 1, 1946, Harry was a son of the late Arthur and Alice Sheariff Russell. After graduating from Pottsville Area High School in 1966, Harry proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He received two overseas bars, the Vietnam Campaign, Marksman Medal for M-14, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Accommodation Medal and Vietnam Service Ribbon. Upon being honorably discharged from the Army, he became active in several veteran's groups including Veterans of Vietnam War, Schuylkill Post 29; American Legion Post 38, Schuylkill Haven; and Pottsville Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. He was also a life member of AMVETS Post 180, VFW Post 129 and DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. He also played the Boomba with 'The Happy Boombadeers' of Reading. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Russell; and a sister, Dolly Russell. He is survived by his sons, Harry C. Russell Jr. and Johnathon Russell, both of Kutztown; stepsons, Dwayne Reichert Jr. and Tyler Schaeffer, both of Schuylkill Haven; a daughter, Lisa and her husband, Jerry Urban, Saint Clair; stepdaughters, Heather, Treasure, Robyn and Samantha, Schuylkill Haven; brothers, John Russell, Pottsville, and Robert Russell and his wife, Cathy, Illinois; sisters, Alice Russell, Pottsville, and Doris and her husband, Eric Fessler, Erie; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Sixth and West Market streets, Pottsville. The Rev. Harold Hand will officiate. Family and Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Pottsville Joint Veteran Council Attn: Bob Bedford, 14 N. Third St., Pottsville, Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch St, Pottsville, and The American Cancer Society , Schuylkill Unit, 16 N. Fourth St., Minersville. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
