Harriett L. Bam Elston, Age 80, of North Chemung, NY, passed away at home with her loving family at her side on Friday, November 26, 2010. Harriett was born February 16, 1930 in Tioga, PA daughter of the late William and Louisa (Jones) Hughes. She was married October 29, 1947 to the late Kenneth E. Elston, Sr. Harriett and her husband owned and operated Kens Diner in Wellsburg, NY and later were proprietors of the New Fort Reed Tavern. She was a former member of the North Chemung Methodist Church. Her interests included watching the NY Yankees, working puzzles and most important the time she spent with her family. Survivors include her children, Kenneth Elston, Jr. (Julie) of Erin, Duane Elston (Christine) Wellsburg, Thomas Elston of Elmira Heights, Cheryl Apgar of North Chemung, Gerald Elston (Kelly) of Horseheads, Patricia Plaisted (Don) of North Chemung, her grandchildren, Kenneth III, Kevin, Shannon, Jeffrey, Ebben, Jason, Kyle, Jayme, Joseph, Jennifer, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brothers and sisters, Kenneth (Ruby) Hughes, Glenora Gunderman, Shirley (Gerald) May, Janice (Lem) Pipher, Phyliss Lowman, Beverly (Edgar) Harland, Marilyn (Tom) Karksi, many nieces, nephews and friends. Harriett was predeceased by her parents, husband Kenneth E. Elston, Sr. granddaughters, Kimberly Elston & Stacie Elston, brothers, Paul Hughes, Eldon Hughes and a son-in-law, Eugene Apgar. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, November 29, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Her service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 7 PM with Pastor Arthur Skip Reed officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will provide flowers and memorials are directed to a charity of ones choice.
