Harriett J. (Palmer) Hoover

STATE COLLEGE- Harriett J. (Palmer) Hoover, 83, of Canton, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at the Fairways Nursing Center in State College, PA. She was the wife of the late Marvin D. Hoover who passed away on May 12, 1997. The couple married in 1946 and had over 50 happy years together. Family and friends are welcome to call from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Harrietts life will be private and at the convenience of her family. Burial will also be private in Park Cemetery, Canton, PA. Harriett was born on November 16, 1926 in Canton, PA, daughter of the late Ben M. Palmer and Mabel O. (Crist) Richard. She was a Canton High School graduate, a member of the Alba Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) and also the Wheel Inn. She and Marvin opened the Hoover Hardware Store in 1963 and she continued working there until recently. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the holidays, working at the store, reading, and traveling. Two of her favorite destinations were Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She also liked sports and especially enjoyed the Bowl Game excursions with many local Penn State fans. Harriett is survived by her children: Sandi and Capt. Richard Sturge of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Greg and Kim Hoover of Syracuse, NY, Rick and Cheryl Hoover of Troy, PA, Laurie and Col. (ret.) David Heininger of State College, PA, and Crist and Diane Palmer of Canton, PA, her grandchildren: Leanne Hoover, Darien Hoover, Katie Heininger, Sarah Heininger, Nathan (Raelynne) Palmer, Nicholas Palmer, and Heather Palmer, her great grandchildren Madison and Reed Palmer, and three nephews. Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, her sister Shirley Stage, and her brother Allen Shorty Palmer. Memorial contributions may be made in Harrietts memory to the Allen F. Pierce Free Library 115 Center Street Troy, PA 16947 or the Green Free Library 14 North Center Street Canton, PA 17724.
