Harriet M. Reeser

Lewisberry - Harriet (Moore) Reeser, 81, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020 at Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by her husband Donald, Sr. and son Donald, Jr. Harriet was born in Lewisberry in 1939, the daughter of the late Earl Moore, Sr. and Madeline (Erney) Moore. She is survived by her husband Donald L. Reeser, Sr. and a son, Donald Jr. (Ranna) all of Lewisberry; also, three sisters, Elmina Brent (Chester), Rosalie Smith (both of Lewisberry) and Darlene Erdman (Spring Grove); also three brothers, Homer (Bonnie) (Lewisberry), Larry (Mary) (Carlisle) and Barry (Fair Oaks, CA). She was predeceased in death by four brothers, Earl Jr. (Jean) (New Cumberland), William (Virginia) (Newville), Kermit (Lewisberry) and John (Bonnie) (Lewisberry) and a sister, Flora (Lewisberry). Harriet married the love of her life, Donald L. Reeser, Sr. on November 6, 1960 and bore a son, Donald, Jr. in June 1967. She greeted her daughter-in-law Ranna (McNeil) to the family in 2011 with open arms and a glowing heart her selfless dedication to all three made for a loving home and a happy life. She was a 1957 graduate of New Cumberland High School and a former Pennsylvania state employee at the Department of Health. She was active in the community in many ways but most notably as a member of the Lewisberry Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and with the Moore's Mountain Church. Harriet, along with her husband Donald and brother Larry Moore, were the founders of Reeser's Soft Ice Cream in 1969 located in Lewisberry, PA. They worked tirelessly to nurture this small business through the decades till they turned it over to their son to operate in 1992. In those 24 years she made countless ice cream cones, peeled peaches and trained an amazing cadre of staff. Those very special staff members became like sons and daughters to her they were never far from her heart. She continued to work part time at Reeser's up until 2019. Not content to rest of their laurels Donald & Harriet opened The Frosty Putter Mini Golf Course in 1992, also in Lewisberry, so that local residents would have a safe, family place to enjoy themselves. She loved animals especially multiple generations of pet dachshunds, one dopey beagle and a dodgy cat that could tell she was an excellent source of treats and belly rubs. She was undoubtedly greeted by many wagging tails and puppy kisses when she passed. She sought always to help and honor others first, placing herself last in line for recognition or notice. She was a loving wife to Donald Sr., a supportive sister and daughter to her family and doting mother to her only son and daughter in law. She remains loved and missed by many in the community. Due to public health concerns, a small private family service will be held at Moore's Mountain Church where she will be interred surrounded by generations of family members that predeceased her. Services will be conducted by Pastor Gavin Whitcomb. Beaver Urich Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers we ask that friends and family donate to New Hope Ministry, 135 Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA 17331. Condolences can be sent on Heffnercare.com. CLICK HERE TO SEND FLOWERS
