YORK – Harriet L. Strayer, 95, formerly of Washington Twp and for the past five years resided with her sister and niece in West York, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Manor Care – North. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, May 19, 2013 at St. Paul’s (Red Run) UCC, 6658 Davidsburg Road, East Berlin with her pastor, The Rev. Sheresa Simpson-Rice officiating. A visitation will be held from 2-2:30 PM Sunday at the Church. Private burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born November 4, 1917 in Washington Twp., a daughter of the late Lloyd and Florence (Gochenour) Strayer, she graduated from Dillsburg High School. Miss Strayer retired from Dentsply, Inc. and was also a licensed cosmetologist and operated a beauty salon out of her home for 50 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and gardening; and was a member of the 25 year club at Dentsply, Inc. Harriet also was a member of Washington Grange #1949, York-Adams Pomona Grange #40, PA State Grange, and the National Grange. Miss Strayer is survived by a sister, Madaline Strayer Thoman of York; a sister in law, Shelva Strayer of York; and four nieces and nephews, Stephen Strayer, Jane Thoman, Patricia Strayer Miele, and Doug Strayer all of York. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Gerald Strayer; and two nephews, Carl Thoman and Scott Strayer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Run Cemetery Assoc., 16 Red Run Church Rd., East Berlin, PA 17316.
