RED LION - Harold L. Helm, 88, died on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Manor Care Health Services, South. He was the husband of Mary A. (Renaud) Helm. The couple planned to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary on June 7th. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 251 E. Main St., Dallastown. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion and from 10-11 a.m. prior to the mass at church. Burial will be in Dallastown Union Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on June 8, 1925 in Vandergrift, PA he was a son of the late Merle W. and Luella M. (Hoover) Helm. Harold was a jet engine mechanic for Curtiss-Wright in the 1950’s, a crane operator for Caterpillar for 19 years until his retirement in 1993 and drove coach for Red Lion Bus Co. part time from 1993-2010. Mr. Helm was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dallastown. He was also a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post #543 and the National Railway Historical Society, Lancaster Chapter. Harold loved anything to do with steam engine trains, being outside doing yard work and going camping with his wife. Mr. Helm served our country in the U.S. Navy for two years during WWII. Along with his wife, Mary, Harold is survived by two sons, Robert Helm of Red Lion and Randall Helm and his wife, Wendy of Grand Rapids, MI; one daughter, Denise Kingsmore and her husband, Timothy of Red Lion; three grandchildren, Alyssa, Ashley and Jason; his adopted family Mark and Migdalia Holmes of Albuquerque, N.M., Jose’ and his wife, Frances, Nelson, Jazmine and Anthony; and two sisters, Donna Lee Horm of Newville and Mary Jane Shirey of Butler, PA.
