Harold J. Phoenix

WILKES-BARRE-Harold J. Phoenix, 87, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Monday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born in Wilkes-Barre on January 1, 1921, he was the son of Harold and Frances (Smith) Phoenix. He attended Coughlin High School. Mr. Phoenix was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church, the Disabled American Veterans and a former member of the American Legion, Wilkes-Barre. He was a model train enthusiast. He was formerly employed by Automobile City, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a body and fender specialist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harold H. Phoenix, who died in 2006; and brothers Clarence and Leroy Phoenix. Surviving is his wife, the former Thelma W. Watts; daughter-in-law, Karen Phoenix; grandchildren Calandra and Kendra Phoenix; sisters Alice Johnson, Mountain Home and Harriet Butler, Clearwater, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Doug Posegate will officiate.
