FELTON - Harold J. “Hammer” Snyder, 77, died on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Yvonne R. (Smith) Snyder. The couple wed on July 3, 1956. A celebration of life tribute service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his pastor, the Reverend Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. Viewings will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born on September 17, 1934 in Red Lion, Harold was a son of the late Cyril and Grace (Schmuck) Snyder. He attended the one room schoolhouse of Springvale Elementary and was a 1952 graduate of Red Lion Senior High School, where he walked to daily from Springvale. He married his Springvale sweetheart, Yvonne after he fell in love when he saw her one day riding her bike. Mr. Snyder served our country for two years in the U.S. Army. He trained at Fort Dix and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Snyder worked since a small lad at the Strine’s Flower Shop and around the family general store. He later worked as a grounds keeper for DCNR and was a member of the Carpenter Millwrights Union 191. Harold was a life member of Springvale United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping and was a State Dog Law Enforcement Officer. He also was a Mathematician. Most importantly, he went the extra mile for his children and grandchildren. Along with his wife, Yvonne, Harold is survived by two sons, Blaine Snyder and his friend, Annie of York Haven and Daniel Snyder and his wife, Brenda of Felton; three daughters, Debra Lau of Felton, Donna Kauffman of York and Mary Wherley and her husband, Lowell of York; 11 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Snyder and his wife, Evelyn of Red Lion and Eugene Snyder and his wife, Nancy of Dallastown; and a sister, Jane Sine of Red Lion.
