Harold E. Hartman

LANCASTER- Harold E. Hartman, 86, died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Rheems Nursing Center, Inc. He was the loving husband of Hilda E. "Betty" (Barnhart) Hartman. The couple has been married for over sixty years. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be 11am Monday, December 10, 2007 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with the Rev. Richard B. Starr officiating. A viewing will be 10 to 11am on Monday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnuthill Rd., York immediately following the service. The York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide full Military Honors. Mr. Hartman was born in Chambersburg on December 11, 1920, a son of the late F. William and Daisy (Hollinger) Hartman. He joined the US Army in 1942 and served in New Guinea until 1945. In his younger years, he and his brother, Charles, had an airport on the family farm and owned their own plane. His fascination with planes and flying continued throughout his life. Mr. Hartman was employed as a machinist and worked into his 80's. A jack-of-all-trades, he built several homes from the ground up. In addition to his wife, Betty, Harold is survived by three daughters, Ann M. and her husband, R. Thomas Grove of Spring Grove, Amy R. and her husband, Alan Freeman of Leesburg, FL, and Holly A. Hartman and her husband, Stephen Pollock of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Garnish. A son, Timothy D. Hartman; two brothers, Charles and Kenneth; and two sisters, Clara and Isabel precede him in death.
