DALLASTOWN – H. Elizabeth (Kilgore) Payne, 96, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Dallastown Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Elwood H. Payne who died in 1989. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at St. Paul Lebanon Lutheran Church, 6955 Rippling Run Road, Felton with her pastor, The. Rev. Linda S. Trout officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Round Hill Presbyterian Cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born October 11, 1915 in York County, a daughter of the late Walter and Queen (Hersey) Kilgore, she was a 1933 graduate of Red Lion High School and had earned degrees from West Chester and Millersville Universities. Her teaching career began in a two-room schoolhouse, Felton School, in Felton. She then taught First Grade in the Dallastown and Red Lion Schools for 37 years. Mrs. Payne was a member of St. Paul Lebanon Lutheran Church where she was an organist. Mrs. Payne is survived by a son, Dr. William H. Payne and his wife Alice of Dallastown; three grandchildren, Sarah and husband Andrew Smith of Baltimore, Emily Payne of York, and Eric Payne and wife Julianne of Dallastown; and one great grandson, Reagan William Payne. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Kilgore; and a sister, Electa Steltz. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lebanon Lutheran Church, 6955 Rippling Run Rd., Felton, PA 17322. The family would like to express their appreciation for the excellent care she received at Victorian Villa and Dallastown Nursing Center.
