Gregory L. Bortner

YORK- How does one measure the life of a loved one, particularly in appropriate words for an obituary? I’ll tell you. It turns out to be a relatively simple task when the loved one happens to be a beautiful man who was adored by his family and friends. He had the ability to light up a room with his humor and efficacious love, laugh and smile. He found joy being with his family and many close friends especially at his pool and 4th of July parties. He was truly one of a kind. A vibrant and gracious man with incredible poise. His devoted wife of 50 years, Janice K. (Geiselman) Bortner, his two children, Shannon Werner and her husband, Bryan of York and Jason Bortner and his wife, Megan of York, his two granddaughters, Erica Werner and Haley Werner, brother, Cletus Bortner and his wife, Joan of Dallastown, sister, Nancy Heltzel of York and sister-in-law, Doris Bortner of York remain here in this life to continue to spread the exceptional spirit and loving nature exhibited by this man, Gregory L. Bortner who was born on July 6, 1953 to the late Cletus and Fern (Gladfelter) Bortner. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bortner.

He passed away peacefully on Sunday April 7, 2024 at his residence. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. with Chaplain Katherine Seiler officiating. A visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, 60 Indiantown Gap Rd., Annville.

Gregory owned Bortner’s Janitorial Service for 34 years. He volunteered at Jacobus Ambulance for over 15 years and also taught many EMT and CPR classes.

Mr. Bortner served our country for three years and six months in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Pleasureville American Legion Post 799. He enjoyed attending sporting events, especially soccer games and volleyball matches.
