YORK – Grayson M. “Whitey” Arendt, 84, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home. He was the husband of Patsy L. (Walker) Arendt with whom he would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on October 22, 2013. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Rev. Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. A visitation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. Private burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Born July 14, 1929 in York a son of the late Paul M. and Amanda L. (Wisner) Arendt, he was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School. Mr. Arendt retired in 1991 from Caterpillar Inc., and also worked as a Sales Manager for Peoples Laundry and Dry Cleaning. Grayson had been active with Boy Scouts of America at Grace Lutheran Church where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was a Jr. Asst. Scout Master. He also served as a 2nd Mate Sea Scout and earned the Sea Scout Quartermaster Award. Mr. Arendt enjoyed singing with a Barbershop Quartet and was an American Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Grayson cherished spending time with his family, raising his German Shepherds, taking many trips to the mountains and beach, and listening to country music. He was a veteran of the US Navy Reserves. In addition to his wife, Mr. Arendt is survived by two daughters, Carolyn A. Bahn and companion, Philip Erb of East Berlin and Judy K. and husband Cletis Bentz of York; four grandchildren, Tracy and husband Brian Elphick, Teresa and husband John Barshinger, Trina and husband Scott Urey, and Troy Bahn and fiancée Rachel Jones; 10 great grandchildren, Amanda and Rachel Elphick, Jennifer and Laura Barshinger, Scottie, Clayton, and Byron Urey, expecting Baby Ashton Urey due in October, Tori Jones, and Savannah Bahn; a brother, Milson and wife Jan Arendt of York; a sister, Beverly Mellish of East Berlin; his German Shepherd, Heidie Bear; and numerous extended family.
