Grant J. Yinger

LEWISBERRY – Grant J. Yinger, 88, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Harrisburg Hospital. He was the husband of Marie C. (Eckenrode) Yinger who died on Dec. 28, 2012. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Beaver Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 West Front Street, Lewisberry with Rev. James E. Winter, Sr. officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. John’s Lewisberry Cemetery. Born December 30, 1924 in Lewisberry, a son of the late Glenn and Katherine (Strayer) Yinger, he was a graduate of New Cumberland High School. Following school he worked on the family farm until the mid 1950’s, when he took over the family store, Yinger’s General Store which he owned and operated until 1978. Grant then began as a bus driver for West Shore School District where he worked more than 30 years until his retirement in 2010. During his younger years he had been a member of Lewisberry Fire Dept. and played baseball for Strinestown. He also enjoyed hunting. Mr. Yinger is survived by two sons, Terrence R. Yinger and Galen A. Yinger both of Lewisberry; a granddaughter, Alyse; and great granddaughter, Analise. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda A. Mariano; a brother, Russell; and two sisters, Margaret and Lorena.
