ONEIDA, NY- Grace L. (Harper) Wiggins, 90, formerly of the Troy, PA area went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility in Oneida, NY. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Glenwood Cemetery, Troy, PA for a graveside committal service at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 31, 2010. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. Grace was born on May 5, 1920 in Williamsport, PA, daughter of the late Ralph Y. and Alice Louise (Rockwell) Harper. She was a Troy High School graduate, earned her Registered Nursing degree from the Auburn Memorial Hospital Nursing program, and earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Boston University. In her early days as a nurse, Grace worked for the Troy Community Hospital, moving on to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. She left Sayre for Boston, MA, where she worked as a Supervisor of the Outpatient Clinic, and after earning her Bachelors in Nursing became an instructor in Obstetrics Nursing for the School for Practical Nursing at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, MA. She retired in 1981 after 12 years of service. Grace was a member of the Nurses Corp during World War II , and after was a volenteer for the Red Cross; where she taught first aid, volenteered for a soup kitchen in Fall River, MA, and was a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church. Grace is survived by her brother Francis Harper of Allentown, PA, her sister Martha Noble of Verona, NY, her sister-in-law Vera (Darrow) Harper, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Frank and Kenneth Harper, her brother-in-law Cyrus Noble, Jr., her sister-in-law Bertha W.H. Tiller, and her nephew Jim Harper. Contributions may be made in Grace's memory to the West Burlington United Methodist Church, RR 3 Box 457 Troy, PA 16947 or to the Bradford County Public Library, RD 3 Troy, PA 16947.
