WELLSVILLE- Gordon Lawrence Shank, 73, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Hershey Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Janice E. (Hughes) Shank to whom he was married to for 50 years. Lawrence was born in New Chester, PA on August 3, 1933, a son of the late Gordon J. and Tressie E. (Groft) Shank. He was a 1951 graduate of Dillsburg High School. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 as a Paratrooper, stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. Lawrence was a loving father and grandfather. He leaves a daughter, Cindy, her husband Tyrone and children: Nathanael and Hannah; a son, Greg, his wife Kim and children: Jessica, Nicole, and Kenny; and a daughter Lisa, her husband Lance and children: Grant, Delaney, Sebastian and Emerson, all of Wellsville. He also leaves a brother, Merle Shank of Wellsville and a sister, Loretta Weigle of Halifax. Lawrence served as a Republican Committee Man for Warrington Township from 1996-2007. He was a past President of the Northern York County Republican Club. In 1984 he was elected Warrington Township Supervisor for 14 years and also was a Chairman of the Board. He joined the Pinchot Park Lions Club in 1964, where he served as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and also was the Secretary of the Club for over 30 years. He worked for the former Cole Steel and then for Penn DOT. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, c/o Mearl Orner, 625 Mt. Zion Rd., Dillsburg, PA 17019, or American Heart Association, 140 Roosevelt Ave., Suite 208, York, PA 17401. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday at Beaver-Urich Funeral Home, Inc., 305 W. Front Street, in Lewisberry. The Reverend Albert Haffly, Jr. will be officiating at the service. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lewisberry, with full military honors by York County Veteran's Honor Guard.
