YORK- Gordon E. Ward, Jr., 76, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at York Lutheran Home at Sprenkle Dr. He was the loving husband of Myrtle A. (Ritter) Ward, to whom he was married to for 52 years. The couple wed on July 3, 1957 A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with Pastor Tracy Conner officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 10-11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Ward was born on March 23, 1933 in York, the son of the late Gordon and Fairy (March) Ward, Sr. Gordon worked as a Machinist for 29 years for the former Campbell Chain Co. until his retirement in 1998. Mr. Ward served our country for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a very proud veteran. Mr. Ward had a love for motorcycles and attending motorcycle events with his daughter, Sue. He was an avid model builder, constructing anything to do with the military. He also was a big history buff, especially with tanks and airplanes. Gordon loved his Sunday drives, taking pictures, his cats, Tom, Fritz, Inky and Nick, and his daughter's dog, Dugger. He was a member of the NRA. He was also known as Dottie Roffe's right hand camera and set up man for all of his daughter Lynn's shows and events. In all, he was a great husband, father, grandfather, who loved his family and all who met him, loved him dearly. He will be sadly missed by all. Along with his wife, Myrtle, he is survived by one son, Ken Myers, Jr. and his wife, Marie of Dover; daughters, Susan Bachant and her husband, Steve of York and Lynn Messersmith and her husband, Lee, who unquestionably attended to his many needs, of Dover; four grandchildren, Tanya and Randy Messersmith, Erika Keckler, and Crystal Myers; eight step grandchildren; five great grandchildren, Zachary, Genavee, Hailey, Olivia, and Madison; 19 step grandchildren; and seven step great great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Tina A. Ward. Memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N., York, PA 17402.
