RENOVO - Gordon C. "Corkey" Stephens Sr. age 80, of Westport, died at Geisinger Medical Center on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009. He was born in Canisteo, New York, on May 14, 1929, son of the late Jesse and Olive Pierce Stephens. Corkey was a member of the Morton's Corners Baptist Church, was a steelworker for Bethlehem Steel Co., and drove a lumber truck after working at the steel mill. Gordon served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a volunteer fireman in Boston, New York for many years, and was a member of the American Legion. He loved to fish, was an avid motorcycle rider, and enjoyed yard work and gardening. On Dec. 30, 1954, Corkey married Mary L. (Morton) Stephens in Sinnemahoning and she survives. Also surviving is a son: Gordon C. (Jacqueline ) Stephens Jr. of Leroy, N.Y., daughters: Virginia Kovacik and Tina (Jim) Riehle both of Sierra Vista, Arizona, grandchildren: Charles, Jessica, Nicholas, and Kimberly, and great grandchildren: Anna, Sean, and Mary. Also surviving are his brothers: Irving (Ednae) Stephens of Sun City, Ca. and Douglas Stephens of Driftwood, sister: Judy (Jim) Fletcher of Reidsville, S. Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Memorial funeral services will be held at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth St., Renovo at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 with Mrs. Martha Sykes officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
