Gordon C. Gordy" Furman

Wellsburg, NY-Gordon C. "Gordy" Furman, Age 88 of 23 West Drybrook Road Waverly, NY (Town of Chemung), formerly of Checkerville, PA. passed away at home on Monday, July 13, 2009 with his family at his side. Gordon was born November 15, 1920 in Ridgebury, PA son of the late Howard and Bertha (Thompson) Furman. He graduated from Troy High School class of 1939. Gordon was a Building Contractor and later owned Troy Marble & Granite Works from 1979 to 1989. As a master craftsman he was one of very few who hand built stairways and cabinets. Gordon raised chickens and sold eggs in his younger days and developed his own egg washing machine made from a wringer washer. He attended the Chemung United Methodist Church and was a member of the Wheel Inn. Gordon was a past member of the Grange, Moose Club, Monument Builders of North America and was a Rock of Ages Monument Dealer. His other interests included making walnut caramels and cooking. He married the former Shirley Button Davis on April 15, 1989 in Athens, PA. Survivors include his loving wife Shirley B. Furman of Chemung, a daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Bruce McMail of Bentley Creek, PA, son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Nadine Furman of Big Pond, PA, step-son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Joellen Davis of Sayre, PA, step-daughters, Kathy Davis of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Denise Davis of North Palm Beach Gardens, FL, a sister, Mary Harkness of West Burlington, PA, 5 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gordon was predeceased by his first wife Wilma (Yerkes) Furman. Family and friends are invited to his graveside service at 1:00 PM Friday, July 17, 2009 at Harkness Cemetery, Route 4014 (Springfield/East Smithfield Road) with Reverend James Carr officiating.
