Gordon Burnell Bollinger

JACOBUS- Gordon Burnell Bollinger, 86, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Joan M. (Shearer) Bollinger with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born May 21, 1932 in Glen Rock, he was the son of the late Raymond R. and Estella J. (Rohrbaugh) Bollinger, Sr. Burnell was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Glen Rock High School, where he served as Class President. He was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly served his country during the Korean War. Mr. Bollinger was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus where he was very active, having served as President of the Church Council several times as well as serving on various other church committees. Burnell retired from Columbia Gas (York County Gas Co.) in 1992 after 36 years of service, starting as a helper and retiring as York Area Manager. He also served his community in many ways during his lifetime, earning a lifetime membership in both the Jacobus Fire Co. and York County Fire Police Association; several years as a part time Borough Police Officer, Borough Secretary/Treasurer, Mayor for two terms (2002-2009) and a member of the York County Veterans Honor Guard. In addition to his loving wife, Joan, he is survived by two sons, Scott G. Bollinger of York Twp. and Brian D. Bollinger of Jacobus; daughter, Carol M. Varney and husband, Dave of Lincolnton, NC; five grandchildren, Ashley Bollinger, Gordon Bollinger, Christina Hahn and husband, Kirk, Michelle Scruggs and her husband Steven, and Ryan Shank; two great grandchildren, Anson Hahn and Sadie Scruggs; and two sisters, Doris E. Bollinger and Mary Jane Bollinger, both of York, along with predeased brothers, Raymond R. Jr and Donald E. Bollinger. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, 99 York Rd., Jacobus with Pastor Tina Minnich officiating and full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion is in charge of arrangements.
