Gloria F. Glo" Grove

MANCHESTER TWP. - Gloria F. "Glo" Grove died at 9 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008 at her home. She was 81. Miss Grove was born June 29, 1926, in York. She was the daughter of the late Norman M. Grove of Middletown and the late Miriam (Herrman) Barshinger of Red Lion. Her guardians were the late Charles and Hazel Boeckel of North York. Gloria is survived by her stepmother, Romaine S. Grove of Middletown; three brothers, Donald T. Grove and wife, Bev of Cinnaminson, NJ, Kenneth L. Grove and wife, Vicki of Middletown, and David E. Grove and wife, Ann of Carlisle; three sisters, E. Diane Horne and husband, Bud of Royal Retreat, VA, Katherine L. Slatt and husband, Bob of Steelton, and Debra I. Brown and husband, Paul of Denver, PA; 22 nieces and nephews; and 9 great nieces and nephews. Glo graduated from the class of 1944 of the former North York High School. She worked as a Clerk of the Orphans Court and Register of Wills Office at the York County Court House. She also worked as a secretary at the Valencia Ballroom during the Big Band Era and was church secretary of Heidleberg United Church of Christ. She attended York College to obtain her insurance agent's license. She was Assistant Insurance Agent to the Broker of Insurance for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the State Capital in Harrisburg. She also was the President of Hartley Mutual Insurance Co. until it merged with Paradise Mutual of Hanover. She also worked for Charles Stein Agency in York. She was an avid reader, news-political junkie, and loved her horses and dogs. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 15 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 2523 Pine Grove Rd., York with her pastor, the Rev. Robert Vizthum, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements.
