Gloria D. (Jacobs) Ferree

YORK- Gloria D. (Jacobs) Ferree, 89, passed away Friday, November 6, 2015 at Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community. She was the wife of the late Kenneth William Ferree. The couple were married September 20, 1947 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage before Kenneth’s passing in 2004. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community, with The Reverend David Brinker and The Reverend Stephany Sechrist officiating. A public visitation will be held from 9-10 prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born September 12, 1926 in York, Gloria was a daughter of the late Charlotte M. (Ahrens) Jacobs Cunningham. She worked as a secretary for the York City School District. Mrs. Ferree was a lifelong member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and was a member of the church choir. She was also a member of Dever’s Lions Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Shiloh Garden Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Gloria enjoyed reading, counted cross-stitching and was a loving mother to her family and Charlotte the parrotlet. Mrs. Ferree is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. Schreck and her husband Paul of York; three grandchildren, Eric D. Sharp, Kristen E. Mekulsia, and Zachary C. Ferree; three great grandchildren, Madison R. Sharp, Riley N. Sharp, and Ella Rose Mekulsia; a brother, Richard D. Jacobs and his wife Barbara of York; a sister, Marilyn A. Hamberger of York, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and mother, Gloria was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey E. Ferree and a son-in-law, Raymond Sharp.
