Gloria A. (Marteny) Newman

FELTON - Gloria A. (Marteny) Newman, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 21, 2010 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center. She was the wife of Jan K. Newman to whom she was married for 43 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 25, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church, 126 W. Main Street, Dallastown with her pastor, The Rev. Lawrence A. Cunnings officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Born July 21, 1946 in York, a daughter of Lesley C. Marteny of New Oxford and the late Naomi "Judy" (Markey) Marteny, she was a 1964 graduate of Dallastown Area High School. Mrs. Newman was the cafeteria manager at Dallastown Elementary School, where she worked for 30 years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was very active in ministry on the Fellowship Committee and Altar Guild. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Newman also enjoyed traveling. She began her journeys by traveling throughout Europe for two years with her husband while he was serving in the US military. In addition to her husband and her father, Mrs. Newman is survived by a daughter, Gretchen M. and husband Kirby Rhodes of York; a son, Ben M. and wife Sue Newman of Onalaska, WI; five grandchildren, Erich, Caleb, and Jonathan Rhodes, Karis and Timothy Newman; a brother, David Marteny of York; and two sisters, Ruth Tobin of Conway, SC and Carolyn Sue Marteny of Troy, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 126 W. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313. Please indicate Andy Stump's Ministry in Haiti as the recipient.
