Glenwood Pershing “Slugger” Blouse

DALLASTOWN Glenwood Pershing Slugger Blouse, born on a farm on Grim Hollow Road, Red Lion on December 31, 1918 to Irene Mardella (Grim) Hoffman wife of Curtis M. Hoffman; passed away in his sleep in his beloved York County at the age of 92 on February 23, 2011. He was educated through the eighth grade in a one-room school house on Grim Hollow Rd. He married Rachel Hench of Dallastown in 1949 and celebrated 61 years of marriage this past August. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church, 1155 Felton Rd., Red Lion with his pastor, The Rev. James C. House officiating. A viewing will be held from 2-3:00 PM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be held in Zion U.M. Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Glenwood proudly served under General George Patton during WWII in the decoy Operation Quicksilver during the Battle of the Bulge. He was in the battle of Bastogne with the Third Army. With his father, Curtis he founded Curtis M. Hoffman Masonry which built many beautiful homes, churches, and buildings throughout the York and surrounding counties. Glenwood was active in the Pennsylvania thoroughbred horse racing industry raising and racing many stakes winners. His roots and love for York County were deep and he could never leave home for long. In addition to his widow, Rachel Blouse; he leaves a daughter, Cynthia Lebowitz and husband Michael of Grand Junction, CO; two sons, Ben Blouse and wife Sally of Telluride, CO and Ted Blouse and wife Andrea of Red Lion; six grandchildren, Ashley Shupp of Brogue, Bebe Blouse of Telluride, Noah Lebowitz of Tempe, AZ, Josiah Lebowitz of Japan, and Alex and Jared Blouse of Red Lion; and a great grandson, Ethan Shupp. Glenwood was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Hoffman; mother, Irene Mardella; a sister, Arlene Stine; and a brother Weldon Blouse.
