Glen S. 'Penny' Smith

Red Lion—Glen S. “Penny” Smith, 84, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Faith H. (Robinson) Smith to whom he was married for 20 years and the late Phyllis G. (Reichard) Smith with whom he shared 44 years, before her passing in 1991. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday October 16, 2012 at St. Paul (Springvale) United Methodist Church, 265 Circle Drive, Red Lion with his pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. Visitations will be held Monday, from 6-8 PM, at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion and Tuesday, from 10:30-11:30 AM, at the church. Born September 12, 1928 in Windsor, he was a son of the late Clinton and Rosie (Leiphart) Smith. He was a 1947 graduate of Red Lion High School and an active member of the class reunion committee. He was employed with Tobacco Nuforms as a supervisor for 34 years and later worked with Cool Air Inc., where he built air conditioning units. Penny played baseball for Windsor in the Susquehanna League for many years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame for his achievements and contributions. He also coached baseball both in the Susquehanna League for Windsor and Felton and Legion Baseball for Red Lion. An avid New York Yankees Fan, he was also a member of the York Revolution Fan Club. He was a member of St. Paul (Springvale) United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by one son, Danny C. Smith and wife, Sue; one daughter, Penny Lynne Dzubinski and husband, Doug; four step-daughters, Gina Barton and husband, Don, Lee Wagner-Poff and husband, Jeff, Jolene Morrow and husband, Bill and Bev Landis; two step-sons, Steve Grassetti and wife, Ileen and Vince Grassetti; 3 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey L. Smith. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Rd, Suite 194, York, Pa 17403 or St. Paul (Springvale) United Methodist Church, 265 Circle Drive, Red Lion, Pa 17356.
