Gladys 'Toni' Innerst Zartman

CHANHASSEN, MN Gladys “Toni” Innerst Zartman, 97, a resident of SummerWood Presbyterian Homes, Chanhassen, MN, formerly of Jacobus, went to heaven Saturday, January 24th 2015. She passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was the wife of the late R.H. “Sam” Zartman. Gladys was born on June 13th, 1917 to Jacob and Emma (Bupp) Innerst of Jacobus, PA. She served as Jacobus’ post mistress for many years. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Salvation Army, the York Hospital Auxiliary and the Shrewsbury YMCA. Gladys lived most of her life in Jacobus, and then in Shrewsbury at the Lutheran Village Cottages for 11 years. She moved to Minnesota at age 95, to be near her daughter and family. She was also a member of the “Gabbers”, a group of amazing women who became friends during World War II and met every two weeks for sixty years. She will be remembered for her steadfast love and service to the Lord, her kindness to all she met, her adventurous spirit, her sense of humor, her contagious smile and love of family and friends. Gladys is survived by a daughter Christina Green and husband James B. Green, son Thomas Zartman and wife Kathy. She had four grandchildren Rebecca and husband Marc, Jim and wife Jennifer, Matthew and Daniel. She was eagerly anticipating the birth of her 1st great-grandchild in February 2015. She was preceded in death by two sisters Pearl Innerst and Letha Cramer and two brothers Perry and Robert Innerst. A memorial service to celebrate Gladys’s life will be held at 11 am Saturday, January 31st at Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Road, Jacobus, with Pastor Tina Minnich officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be at Salem Union Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, York is in charge of arrangements.
