Gladys Lucillle (Stein) Grove

YORK- Gladys Lucille (Stein) Grove, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27th at her daughter’s home in Catawissa PA. She was the wife of the late Martin Cletus Grove, Jr., to whom she was married on May 11, 1949 and spent 55 years together before his death. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, March 2nd 11 a.m. at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Road, Cross Roads with her pastor, Reverend Michael G. Trimmer, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Gladys was born on August 8, 1928 in Freysville, York County, PA, the daughter of the late Walter Hyson and Annie Dora (Emenheiser) Stein. She was a 1945 graduate of Red Lion Area High School and a 1949 graduate of York Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from York Hospital in 1990, where she had worked over the course of 51 years prn (where needed) on the floors and finished in the recovery room. After her retirement, she volunteered for 20 years in the medical records department of the hospital. She was a member of Cross Roads United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women and the Willing Workers Sunday School class, and served in the kitchen. She enjoyed caring for children, cooking & baking, crocheting and knitting, and raising flowers (especially rare African violets). Even in her last days, she showed her sense of humor and her devotion to her family. Mrs. Grove is survived by a son, Randall E “Randy” Grove and daughter, Judith A “Judy” Grove who lived in her home; four other daughters, Linda G & husband George Nicholas “Nick” Fletcher, Silvia I & husband Edward M Boublis, all of Catawissa, PA, Nancy D & husband David J Fox of Bloomsburg, PA; and Cynthia R “Cindy” & husband Terry L Lyons of Millville, PA. 12 grandchildren, Nathan W & wife Karen L Fletcher, Jason B & wife Vanessa M S Fletcher, Amy L Kauffman, Ryan J & wife Melissa L Fox, Angela M. Boublis, Cherie J & husband Jason D Moore, Sara I & husband Aaron W Cole; and Gregory M, Jonathan E, Jeffrey A L, Christian J d F, and Elizabeth A Lyons; 9 great grandchildren: Evan, Amelia & Hannah Fletcher, Daidyn & Becca Kauffman, Emily & Allison Moore, and Ava & Kailan Cole; brother Bruce & wife Beverly Stein of Freysville PA, and brother-in-law, Robert R Stough of York. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma A Stough and Margaret L Diehl. Margaret passed away at Augsburg Lutheran Village, Baltimore MD the day before Gladys. Jesus took “two little girls” by the hand and led them into Heaven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Road, Cross Roads PA 17322 or Geisinger Columbia/Montour Hospice, 410 Glenn Ave, Suite 200, Bloomsburg PA 17815.
