YORK - Gladden E. Gingerich, 89, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in York. He was the husband of Eleanor L. (Chronister) Gingerich to whom he was married 64 years. A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Road, Jacobus, with his Pastor, Tina Minnich officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Born December 25, 1925 in York, Gladden was a son of the late Raymond Adelbert and Arminda Viola (Kreidler) Gingerich. He worked in construction, starting out at H.J. Williams for 22 years; then for Ralph Innerst for three years; RichMarr, in Washington, D.C. for five years, and most currently he served as President at Cre-Con Associates. He was also a current partner in Gravestone Heritage Restorations. Mr. Gingerich served our country in the United States Air Force during World War II. Mr. Gingerich was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus. He also was a member of the American Chestnut Foundation, the Association for Gravestone Studies, Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #451, Tall Cedars of Lebanon- York Forest #30, the Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg Consistory, the Tiadaughton Sportsman’s Club PA, he served as a life member and President of York Archers Inc., he had been a member of the York Downtown Lions Club since 1966 and served three times as President, the National Audubon Society, the York County Heritage Trust, the National Parks Conservation Association, the Nature Conservancy, the Pine Creek Preservation Society in Lycoming County, the Jacobus Leisure Club, and AARP. Gladden also served as a volunteer at the York Rescue Mission and as Scout Master for Boy Scouts Troop 80. Gladden was an avid life enthusiast, enjoying golfing, his cabin, the outdoors and gardening; but the thing that brought him the most joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren who call him Popaw. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gingerich is survived by his three children, Cynthia Gingerich and her husband William Lenz of York, John Michael Gingerich and his partner Dennis Quinn of New York City, and Daniel Gingerich and his wife Nanette of York; two grandchildren, Taylor Gingerich of York, and Molly Gingerich of York; a brother, Burl Gingerich and his wife Carol of Dallastown, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Gladden was preceded in death by two sisters, Etta Mae Reheard and Leafa Vivian Klineyoung. Memorial contributions may be made to York Rescue Mission, 367 W.
