Giles W. Poe, Jr.

WEST MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP- Giles W. Poe, Jr., 79, of York, formerly of Strinestown, died Monday, April 19, 2010 at Normandie Ridge. He was the husband of Shirley (Wertz) Poe. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 11, 2010. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 9:30-11:00 a.m. The Reverend Eddie D.D. Miller will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Strinestown Cemetery. Mr. Poe was born in York on June 7, 1930, a son of the late Giles W. and Helen (Anderson) Poe, Sr. He retired in 1983 as a Meat Department Manager for Acme Markets. He was a member of Strinestown United Brethren Church. Mr. Poe leaves two sons, Arthur A. Martin and his wife Glenda of York, Barry L. Wertz, Sr. and his wife Nancy of Texas; two daughters, Corinne G. Peifer and her husband Kenneth of Mechanicsburg, Deltha A. Sands and her husband Jack of York; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters. A sister had preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made to Strinestown U.B.
