YORK- Gertrude S. “Gertie” (Horton) Cutlip, 80, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at her residence. She leaves her loving companion, David L. Shaffer.


A celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 3:30-5 p.m. Certified Celebrant Allison Duke will be officiating at the service. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at HeffnerCare.com, by searching her obituary. Entombment will be private in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York.


Ms. Cutlip was born in Johnstown, PA on October 3, 1942, the daughter of the late Ivan N. and Marjorie C. (DeArmy) Horton. She worked as a frame maintainer for GTE, where she retired after 27 years of service.


Gertie was a member of the ladies’ auxiliary of both the West York VFW post 8951 and Shiloh American Legion post 791. She was a proud member of IBEW local 1451. She will be remembered for jumping into her Thunderbird convertible and heading to Raystown to spend time camping. She was generous and donated to many charities to benefit animals. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.


Ms. Cutlip leaves four daughters, Marjorie C. Schweinsberg and her husband Joseph of Hanover, Sandy J. Folkenroth and her husband Paul of York, and Cindy S. Marks and her husband, Sam of Shillington and Bernadette Schell Meckley and her husband Boom of York; five grandchildren, Brooke Hancock, Kristin Lartz, Master Sergeant Krista Lawrence of the United States Air Force and her wife Allie, Paul Folkenroth, Jr., and Staff Sergeant Brent Kroh and his wife Donna. She also leaves eight great grandchildren, Jansen Strine and his wife Allison, Dylan Strine, Dylan Eaton, Liberti Eaton, Michael Eaton, III, Landon Geiger, Emma Folkenroth, and Laney Nevins; a sister, D. Sue Aspey of Windsor, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth E. Geiger, III; a brother, Robert Horton, a twin brother, Ivan Newton Horton, Jr., a sister, Ora Mae Miller.
