YORK TWP. - Gertrude May (Markley) Burns, 82, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at her residence. She was the wife of Milton E. Burns, Jr. to whom she was married for 63 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with her pastor, the Reverend Ronald L. Doverspike officiating. A visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. prior to the service. Born on September 7, 1935 in North York, she was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Elizabeth D. (Lewis) Markley. Mrs. Burns was a 1953 graduate of Dallastown High School. Gertrude retired from Dallastown High School Cafeteria and prior to was employed by Motor Freight Express. Mrs. Burns was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Red Lion. She enjoyed collecting owls and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. Along with her husband Milton, Gertrude is survived by two sons, Robert M. Burns of York and Duane L. Burns and wife, Vickey of Dallastown; one daughter, Kimberly Fling of York; two grandchildren, Sarah Fling and Duane L. Burns, II; and one brother, Edward Markley of Fayetteville, NC.
