Gertrude M. Hoffer

DOVER- Gertrude Miriam Crowther Hoffer, age 95, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Manor Care North Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Harold N. Hoffer. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008 in the Youth Building at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York, with the Rev.John Colby officiating. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Hoffer was born in Philadelphia on October 26, 1912, a daughter of the late Benjamin Saville and Gertrude Briggs Crowther. She was employed with Duplex Products in Haddonfield, NJ as a secretary for 11 years before retiring in 1977. Mrs. Hoffer was a member of AARP, the Home Economics Club, several Pinochle Clubs, and the Surviving Spouse Social club. She enjoyed collecting lighthouses, traveling, crocheting, writing letters to her relatives in England, and lovingly caring for her home and family. Mrs. Hoffer leaves behind, a son, Paul A. Hoffer and his wife Kelly of Dover; a daughter, Barbara H. Teyssier and her husband Paul of York; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister, Lillian McCleary and her husband Robert of Morgan Hills, CA; and nieces and nephews. A son, David N. Hoffer; a daughter, Miriam R. Hoffer; a brother, Walter B. Crowther; and a sister, Lucy Greifzu preceded her in death.
