Geraldine M. (Stauffer) Ness

RED LION – Geraldine M. (Stauffer) Ness, 86, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at ManorCare Nursing Facility in Dallastown. She was the loving wife of Walter E. Ness to whom she was married for 64 years. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Ness will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Salisbury officiating. A visitation will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the church. Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ness was born on October 3, 1925 in Dover Twp. She was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Gross) Stauffer. She worked as a cigar maker for Jacob’s Cigar Co. in Red Lion, provided child care in her home, and worked in the cafeteria at Red Lion Senior High until her retirement. Mrs. Ness was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Red Lion. Mrs. Ness was a Girl Scout leader at St. Paul’s, a member of the Red Lion American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of AARP. She also enjoyed being a volunteer tutor at Windsor Elementary School. Mrs. Ness enjoyed going out to eat with her husband, vacationing in Wildwood, NJ, getting her hair styled and dressing up for special occasions. Her favorite activities included shopping, dancing, playing cards and most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ness is survived by a daughter, Cathy L. Attig and husband Barry of Jacobus; a granddaughter, Carianne Bowen and husband Robert of East York; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Carly Bowen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Stauffer and three sisters, Romaine Laughman, Leah Reynolds, and Dorothy Reuter.
