Gerald E. May, Sr.

GILLETT,PA- Gerald E. May, Sr., 71, of Gillett, PA went to rest on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family and dog Gidget after a long battle with cancer. Gerald was born on November 25, 1935 in Elmira, NY. He was the son of the late LeRoy S. "Roy" and Florence E. (Dunning) May. Gerald served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a U.S. Army Ranger. He was employed by the National Homes Corporation in Horseheads, NY for 20 years and loved doing carpentry work. Gerald was also a member of the Troy American Legion Post #49. Gerald married Patricia Brown in 1970 and built their home in 1972 where they have raised their 3 children and just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on June 20, 2007. He loved hunting, horseback riding and training horses, 4 wheeler riding, and took great pride in his yard work and gardening. Above all else Gerald loved his family, his favorite thing to do was spend time with them. Gerald's family includes his wife Patricia A. (Brown) May of Gillett, PA, his children: Gerald E. (Julie) May, Jr. of Pine City, NY, Laurie M. (Chris) Comfort of Elmira, NY, and Brian J. (Rachel) May of Gillett, PA, his grandchildren: Lauren E. May, Kylie E. Comfort, Riley N. May, and Haley M. Comfort, his sisters: Leone Chambers and Dora Ann Avery, both of Gillett, PA, and several nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Francis May and Donald May. Family and friends are welcome to call from 2:00-3:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The funeral service to honor Gerald's life will be held after the visitation at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 25th at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Root officiating. Military honors will be given by the Troy American Legion Post #49 Honor Guard.
