Watch Video Tribute: YORK - Gerald E. "Jerry" Lentz, 79, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009 at Manor Care South. He was the husband of Bettie Mae (Wood) Lentz to whom he was married for 60 years on June 18, 2009. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Pastor Jim D. Polanske officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday and 1-2:00 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Lischey's Cemetery in Spring Grove. Born February 5, 1930 in Menges Mills, a son of the late Jacob A. and Lottie G. (Myers) Lentz, he was a 1947 graduate of William Penn High School. Along with his wife, he owned and operated The Card Corner in downtown York's Continental Square for 22 years, retiring in 1994. Jerry was an accomplished fiddle player and played with various local county bands including; The Country Gentlemen, The Al Shade Show, and Foxydudes. He had also backed several large players in the Nashville community. His hobbies included a love of horses and horse drawn wagons and he enjoyed collecting and trading his extensive Matchbox collectibles. Jerry was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Spry. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lentz is survived by a son, Gerald E. Lentz, II of Dallastown; three daughters, Linda L. and husband Keith Hottinger of York, Lorraine L. Lentz of Dover, and Deborah M. and husband Dean Reck of Dover; nine grandchildren, Kyle and wife Elizabeth Hottinger, Dawn and husband Jason Fowlkes, Adrienne and husband Russell Zeigler, Meridith and husband Steve Hawkins, Jarrad and Jenna Mae Reck, Amber, Jessica, and Samantha Lentz; eight great grandchildren, Alex and Ryan Hottinger, Justin and Olivia Fowlkes, Ciara and husband Ben Bode, Taylor and Matthew Hawkins, and Isabella Palmer; and one great great granddaughter, Gwendalynn Bode. He was preceded in death by twin granddaughters, Gwendolyn and Crystal Fettrow. To know him was to love him. He had a way of making each and every one of his children and grandchildren feel like they were the apple of his eye.
