Gerald A. 'Homer' Harding

WELLSBURG, NY Gerald A. “Homer” Harding, Resident of East Smithfield, PA. On September 27, 2012 my best friend and husband for the past 48 years gave up his struggle against cancer at his home with family by his side. Homer will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Beverly (Porter) Harding, brothers-in-law, John (Shirley) Porter of Elkland, PA and Vern (Carol) Porter of Painted Post, NY, nephews and nieces, Barry (Tammy) Porter, Yvonne Terwilliger, Duane Terwilliger, Scott (Tammie) Porter and Brenda (Doug) Tong. He is also survived by several great nephews and nieces. Homer also leaves behind treasured friends Dick Austin, Ken Stevens and many others too numerous to list. Homer was predeceased by his mother Millicent Harding, step-parents, Fred and Pauline Harding, much loved Aunt Rie and Uncle Bruce Nichols and his dearly loved dogs, especially Max. Homer was a veteran of the US Navy having served from 1965 through 1969. He retired from Trayer Products in 2007 after 42 years of employment. Homer loved restoring his old cars and was an active member of Sullivan Trail Model A Ford Club. He was also a member of Model A Restores Club, Model A Ford Club of America, Shoebox Ford Club and Early V-8 Ford Club. He took great pride in restoring his 1931 Model A Coupe and his 1951 Ford Custom Coup. He especially enjoyed his old cars when touring with club members or just out for rides with friends. He always said he met the nicest people when he was driving one of his old cars. A special thank you to the staff, nurses and volunteers of the Guthrie Hospice for the compassionate care. Homer’s instructions were that there be no calling hours or funeral service. He also requested that those wishing to make memorial contributions do so to, Four Paws Rescue, 1978 Jackson Center Road, Millerton, PA 16936. Arrangements are by the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY 14894.
