George W. Shadle

Pottsville- George W. Shadle, 86, of Pottsville, passed away Thursday at Manor Care, Pottsville. Born in Pottsville on March 5, 1925, he was a son of the late Gideon and Eva Reber Shadle. George was a 1943 graduate of Pottsville High School. He then entered the Navy, having served during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the Shipley Bay aircraft carrier. He retired in 1990 from the former Gold Mills, Pine Grove, where he worked as a machinist for 23 years. George was a former member of the former Mary Queen of Peace Church, Pottsville. He was a life member of the VFW, Elizabethville, member of the American Legion and Black Diamond Navy Club, both of Minersville, and a member of the Catholic War Vets, Pottsville. George was preceded in death by his wife, Joann M. Tobias Shadle, who passed away March 31, 1991; her brother, Wilbur Shadle. He is survived by his two daughters, Gail Strohl, wife of David, of Pottsville and Michelle Leitzel, wife of James, of Pottsville; her 5 Grandchildren, Gary Bruen, Adam and David Strohl, Jr., Danielle Miller and Matthew Lebo. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 A.M. at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Streets, Pottsville. Reverend Joel Williams will officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
