George W. Peterson

George W. Peterson, 79 of Dallastown was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 from York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Norma R. [Ringbloom] Peterson with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage. A celebration of life service will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with his Pastor, the Rev. Gary Weaver officiating. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 7-9:00 PM Friday and from 10-11:00 AM Saturday at the Red Lion Chapel. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Born November 16, 1927 in McKeesport, the 2nd son of the late Harry and Ora [Herwick] Peterson, he graduated from McKeesport High School and attended Pittsburgh Art Institute and Robert Morris Business College. He served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War as an Army photographer. After the military, he worked as a photo finisher in Greensburg, PA and then at Simon Photo in York. George managed the Rutter's Farm Store in Spry for 15 years and has spent the last 10 years at Shur Fine Grocery Store during his semi-retirement. Mr. Peterson enjoyed photography, woodwork, post cards, family vacations, country music, old church hymns, and loved his family. He was a member of St. Paul's (Chapel) United Methodist Church; a former member of York Township Lions Club, and was active with numerous organizations during his children's school years. He was greatly loved and will be missed by his family, friends, and community for the rest of our lives. Always quick with a smile and a sparkle in his eye, he brightened the days and lives of those around him. In addition to his wife, Norma, he leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters and three sons; Suzan R. Simko of Dallastown, Gregg Peterson and his companion Dan Broeker of Washington, DC, Eric B. and wife Ann Marie Peterson of York, Jon Darien and wife Alison Peterson of Denver, CO, and Kristen J. and husband Aaron Kunce of Red Lion; 12 grandchildren, Reed Simko of Dallastown, Jubilant Kunce of Red Lion, Alex Peterson of York, Natalie and Hannah Kunce both of Red Lion, Adlaine Peterson of York, Lilya, Evelyn, Judge, and Meredith Kunce all of Red Lion, Matthew Peterson of York, and Johnny Kunce of Red Lion; a brother, Melvin and wife Vaude Peterson of Elizabeth, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members. Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Boyd Peterson. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's (Chapel) U.M.
