George W. Dettmore

WILKES-BARRE-George W. Dettmore, 95, of Brown Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at Kingston Commons, Kingston. Born February 4, 1912 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late George E. and Mary B. "Mayme" (Heck) Dettmore. Mr. Dettmore was a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of Albright United Methodist Church and a 50 year member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge No. 655. He was a former President of the North East Chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Agents. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, 109th Field Artillery during the 1930's, having attained the rank of First Sergeant. In 1978, he retired as the Manager of Purchasing for Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company, after 52 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Gertrude Cole; his daughter, Joyce C. Blannett and her husband Albert P., Sr.; brothers John, Carl, Joseph and Edward; sisters Margaret Gruver and Helen Lippe. Surviving are his grandsons, William P. Blannett, Hanover Township; Albert P. Blannett, Jr. and his wife, Nadine; great-grandchildren Ashlee N. and Albert P. Blannett, III, all of Wyoming. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the Reverend Patrice H. Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
