DORNSIFE - George R. Smith, 92, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Manor Care, Sunbury. He was born on December 15, 1920 in Sunbury, and was the son of the late George Foster and Mary Loy (Zimmerman) Smith. He was a 1938 graduate of Sunbury High School. George married the late Elaine Dorothy (Engle) Smith in April 1946 and they celebrated 52 years of marriage until her death in September 1998. George served in the United States Army from January 25, 1943 to June 19, 1945. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sherman Street, York. George also taught Sunday school for the Boys Jr. High Class at Bethany E.C. Church, Sunbury. He liked to invent new things, farming and family picnics. George is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; George R. and Deborah Smith of Red Lion, Phillip J. and Barbara Smith of York and Michael E. and Melinda Smith of Dover, two daughters and one son-in-law; Marcia E. and Jim Rebuck of Dornsife and Kathleen A. Parr of York, six grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nine step great-granchildren, one brother-in-law; Tom Evans of IN, two sisters-in-law; Sherri Engle of Sunbury and Donna Michaels of Selinsgrove. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by one grandson; Mark Allen Simpson, four brothers; Floyd, Ray, Claire and Clifford Smith. Burial will take place at Northumberland Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA, 2801 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821. Arrangements are being handled by The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front Street, Milton, PA 17847.
