George R. Cawley

YORK- George R. Cawley, 81, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of Betty D. (Krohn) Cawley. The couple celebrated their 61st anniversary on August 30th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 North Beaver Street in York, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. The Reverend W. Michael Langford and Jack Krohn will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York. Following the graveside services, there will be a gathering back at the church with refreshments. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mr. Cawley was born in Selinsgrove on September 20, 1932, the son of the late George E. and Mary (Reinard) Cawley. Mr. Cawley retired in 1999 from Panagraphics in Dover where he was the Controller. The family had moved to York in 1957 so he could take a job with Borg Warner and then worked for Bendix. He then worked his way to Vice President of AMF/Harley Davidson. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Cawley leaves a son, Steven G. Cawley, Sr. of Hellam; a daughter, Sandy L. Preston and her husband Steven of Dover; three grandchildren, Steven, Jr. and his wife Lauren, Destiny, and Adam; a great grandson, Jason; an aunt, Arlene Musser of Selinsgrove; nieces, Natalie and Ellen, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Sandel and his step mother, Keturah (Wise) Cawley.
