George P. Hower

MILTON - George P. Hower, 77, died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. George was born on August 5, 1933 in Danville and was the son of the late George M. and Mary Ellen (Murray) Hower. He was a graduate of Milton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War and was in the 8457th Military Police Division, based in Sandia Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico. On May 31, 1957, after being discharged from the Army, he married the former Dorothy R. (Reichard) who survives and have celebrated 53 years of marriage. He was a farmer on his own farm. George was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, Milton and the Friends of Massey. He enjoyed antique machinery and tractors, woodworking, deer hunting, fishing, gardening, camping and being with his family. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Todd W. and Tracy Hower of Milton, one daughter; Kathryn L. Martin of Lewisburg, two grandsons; Kevin T. and Lucas M. Hower, both of Milton and one sister; Anna Margaret Good of Camp Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son; Thad Michael Hower, two brothers; Arthur and James Donald Hower and one sister; Ruth Voris. There will be a public viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at The Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Will Hallman will officiate the services. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery.
