George Nathan Lightner

YORK- George N. Lightner, 68, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Nancy I. (Patterson) Lightner. The couple had wed on September 2, 1988. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York with his pastor, Charlie Bubb officiating. Viewings will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lightner was born on August 4, 1941 in York, a son of the late Roy and Bessie (Gladfelter) Lightner, Sr. George was employed by Quality Engineering & Tool Co., Inc. from 1959 to 1997 where he was a partner in the business for 27 years. After leaving QE & T Co., Inc., he retired from Lovejoy Steel Co., where he worked in inside sales for five years. Mr. Lightner and his wife were members of The Praise Center. Mr. Lightner was a life member of the Vikings club and Victory Club. He was also a member of the Liberty Social Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Moose International Lodge. He was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting, watching golf, and watching football, especially Penn State. Most importantly, he loved his family and grandchildren. Along with his wife, Nancy, he is survived by one son, Thomas J. Wright and his wife Lynn of Beulaville, NC; one daughter, Regina Bowman and her husband Robert of Dover; five grandchildren, Caraline, Courtney, Trevor, Kyle and Brady; and one brother, Barry E. Lightner of Baltimore, MD. Preceding him in death was a half brother, Roy Lightner, Jr.; and a half sister, Kathryn Bowen.
