George H. Sheffer

JACOBUS- George H. Sheffer, 90, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services in Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Lucy B. (Miller) Sheffer, who passed away five days ago, Wednesday, September 7, 2016. The couple has been married 68 years on June 19, 2016. A Celebration of Life Service will be held along with the service for his wife at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York. Steve Hulshizer and Tom Irwin will be officiating at the service. Viewings from 6-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York. Mr. Sheffer was born in North Codorus Township on January 21, 1926, the son of the late Clarence E. and Miriam K. (Freed) Sheffer, Sr. He retired from Cole Steel in York and then worked as a custodian for the former York Gospel Center for 18 years. Mr. Sheffer was a member of North York Gospel Chapel. He was a member of the Jacobus Leisure Club and a life member of Goodwill Fire Company in Jacobus. Mr. Sheffer leaves a son George H. Sheffer, Jr. and his wife Debra of Red Lion; two daughters, Linda L. Billet and her husband Thomas of East Prospect and Beverly A. Sheffer of Jacobus; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and six step great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Stump of Myerstown and Dorcas Brodbeck of Seven Valleys; and a brother, David Sheffer of Spring Grove. A granddaughter, Susan Marie Billet; and four brothers, John, Clarence, Donald, and Ephraim Sheffer had preceded him in death.
