George H. Merryfield

POTTSVILLE- George H. Merryfield, 83, of Temple, formerly of Pottsville, passed away peacefully late Tuesday, October 9th with his wife Janet at his side. Born in Pottsville on May 4, 1929, he was a son of the late Arthur and Lillian Showers Merryfield. George was an Army veteran having served during the Korean War, stationed in Germany. He worked for Dana Corporation, Parish division, Reading, until he retired. George was a member of Christ U.C.C., Temple. He was a charter and founding member of the Buck Fever Rod and Gun Club, the American Hose Co., both of Pottsville. He was a member of Temple Fire Company. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, he also enjoyed going to Atlantic City casinos, attending weekend stock car racing at the Reading Fairgrounds for many years with his son and going on cruises with his dear friends and his beloved wife. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his two brothers, William and Walter Merryfield and his two sisters, Grace Schlack and June Frantz. George is survived by his wife, Janet E. Frankenstine Merryfield, of Temple, to whom he celebrated 58 years of marriage on August 28; his son, Dennis Merryfield, of Ithaca, NY; his two Grandsons, Joseph G. and Ethan D. Merryfield, of Ithaca, NY; his sister, Dorothy Croll, of Endicott, NY; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday evening at 8:00 P.M. at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Streets, Pottsville, PA 17901. SALM Regnal Leibenspberger will officiate. Family and friends may call on Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Private interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
