YORK- George Edward Shanabrough, 87, of Windsor Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. He suffered for two years from the effects of a stroke. He was the husband of the late Anna Mae (Wetzel) Shanabrough. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion, with a viewing from 10-11 a.m. His pastor, The Reverend David Tietje will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Shanabrough was born in York on January 1, 1925, son of the late Harry E. and Grace Sarah (Strine) Shanabrough. He worked as a carpenter for Epstein and Sons Construction in York and as a driver for Enterprise Car Rental. Mr. Shanabrough was a 50 year member of St. John’s U.C.C. in Red Lion, where he served on the Consistory and sang in the choir. He was a member of Tin Can Sailors, Task Force 50 (model ship building), Red Rose Ramblers Camping Club, and both the White Rose and American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps. He served in The US Navy during WWII where he was a Boatswain's Mate. Mr. Shanabrough leaves a son, Brian Shanabrough of York; a daughter, Donna Watson and her husband, Jerry of York; three grandchildren, Daniel Watson, Allison Shanabrough, and Cory Watson. A daughter, Alisa Jonosky had preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s U.C.C., 161 North Main Street, Red Lion, PA 17356. The family would like to extend a deep heartfelt thank you to everyone at Visiting Angels and White Rose Hospice for their loving care.
