George Edward Lowder

YORK-George Edward Lowder, 77, of Manchester Township, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2019 at York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Lynda Eileen (Daugherty) Lowder. Mr. Lowder was born in York on March 3, 1942, son of William and Betty Lowder. He retired as the Lead Building Operator of Alexander A.D. Goode School in York after 30 years of service. Mr. Lowder was a member of the Izaak Walton League and the York Archery League. Mr. Lowder participated in archery competitions winning several metals. He participated in weekly gatherings of the York Model Aviators club and the Susquehanna Yacht Club, where he flew remote-controlled airplanes and sailed remote-controlled sailboats. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He loved to tell stories of his adventures in the wilderness with a “stretched imagination”! He also enjoyed plowing his neighbors driveways with his John Deer.... he enjoyed helping his neighbors and he really loved the home-made cookies and pies that came his way! You could find him on his front porch most of the time waving and talking to anyone who passed by. You could call him The Neighborhood Greeter! Mr. Lowder leaves a daughter, Tamera Lyn Bennett and her husband Todd of York; two grandchildren, Paul Edward Bennett and Elliot Jacob Bennett; two brother-in-laws, Gary Miller and Glenn Daugherty; two sister- in-laws, Franny Daugherty and Pat Lowder; Pam Dellinger, an honorary daughter and neighbor and nieces and nephews. He was preceded by two brothers, John and Bill Lowder. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Brunswick at Longstown, who were George’s extended family during his last months. Also, a special thanks to the staff of York Hospital for their wonderful and heart-felt care of George and his family during his last days. Services will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington Disease Foundation www.huntingtonsdiseasefoundation.org.
