York—George E. Whittles, 87, passed away, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at his residence in Springettsbury Township. He was the husband of Jean N. (Nelson) Whittles to whom he was married for 64 years. A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2009 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1502 Fourth Ave., York, with the Rev. Dr. David Robson, officiating. Burial will private at the convenience of the family. Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born February 1, 1922 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late James A. and Elizabeth (Edwards) Whittles. A dedicated entrepreneur, who founded Northern Polymer Corporation in 1975, he had a passion for his work and devoted nearly 3 ½ decades to his business. Mr. Whittles was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II, was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in York, and was also a member of the Shiloh American Legion, Outdoor Country Club and the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. In addition to his wife, Mr. Whittles is also survived by two sons, James H. Whittles of Holland, MI, and Thomas N. Whittles and his wife Stephanie, of York, four daughters, Joni L. Jones and her husband Rick, of Beavercreek, OH, Sandra J. Whittles and Cynthia J. Whittles, both of Elgin, IL, and Nancy J. Whittles of York, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1502 Fourth Ave., York, Pa 17403 or SPCA, 3159 Susquehanna Trail N, York, Pa 17402.
