George E. Keating, Sr.

George E. Keating, Sr. POTTSVILLE-George E. Keating, Sr., 92, formerly of Mount Laffee, resident of Providence Place, Pottsville, passed away Monday morning at Providence Place. Born in Norwegian Twp., on May 2, 1915, he was the son of the late John and Hannah Orff Keating. He was a 1933 graduate of Pottsville High School. He was an Army veteran having served during World War II. He was retired from Reading Anthracite, Wadesville. He was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Church, Pottsville. He was the president of Wadesville Local United Mine Workers Union for over 25 years. He was a member of the Minersville Legion, the Holy Name Society, and the American Legion, Port Carbon. George was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine E. Kelly Keating, who died in 1981; his son, George E. Keating J.; his five brothers, John, Christopher, Harold, Ralph and Francis; his two sisters, Dorothea Phillips and Helen Pearson. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Keating, Pottsville; his two Grandchildren, Brad Skobel and Lauren Carey; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 11:00 A.M. at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Pottsville. The Reverend John W. Bambrick will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at the Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, 6th & West Market Sts., Pottsville.
